Season 4, Episode 4

Kaye’s touch was gentle, tender and slow in a way neither of us had had patience for the first time we exchanged intimacies in this musty storeroom. He opened my dressing gown and caressed my left shoulder. The familiarity of his touch eased my whirling, panicked thoughts. His other hand repeated the motion on my right side, and—
“Guh!” I gritted my teeth against the sudden pain. That was the shoulder I’d dislocated, and it was beginning to swell up.
“Sorry,” Kaye whispered into my ear.
“Not your fault,” I replied, lifting my left hand to caress his face. My scorched fingertips burnt anew against his cheek, so I turned my wrist and ran the back of my hand along his jaw and up to his ear.
Kaye made a soft, low noise, something I more felt than heard, then turned his head and kissed my hand. His lips were soft and warm, and I wanted to kiss them, but the tang of blood in my mouth reminded me that my own lips and tongue were in sorry shape.
My dressing gown hung open now. Kaye pulled off my snood, and I shook my hair free. Then his hands tenderly circled my full belly.
“That’s our child in there,” he said, and his voice held the same sense of wonder it had when I first told him that I was pregnant. Then the baby moved, and he gasped.
“Nothing’s wrong,” I hurried to assure him, “it’s just the baby punching.” That small truth—that our child was healthy and still growing in my womb—that mattered. Everything else was falling to ruin, but at least this was as it should be.
“I know,” he said, and pulled me into a lopsided hug. I turned in his embrace, keeping my sore right arm free as I set my backside against his front, and leaned against him. One of his arms encircled me above my belly, the other below.
“Hah,” I exhaled.
“Yelen,” Kaye said, and I felt his breath on the back of my neck.
“Don’t lean back any further or I’ll lose my balance.”
“Ha!” I reached my good arm around behind me and clasped his hip. My fingers protested. “There, now I’ve got you.”
“Right,” he chuckled, “now if I fall, you’ll plunge down on top of me.”
“I like plunging down on top of you,” I said, and rocked my hips against him.
“Mmm,” Kaye murmured, and I felt him stiffen against my backside. His grip tightened and then loosened again as he resumed his caresses. Over my belly, his hands traveled, then one moved down my thigh while the other came up underneath my breasts.
“They’re heavier than before,” he said in a tone of mock-surprise.
“You know why,” I replied.
“Hmm,” Kaye said, his hand curling around the side of my right breast, “are they swelling up with milk?”
“Yes,” I said, feeling a flush of irrational embarrassment at this.
Kaye took my nipple between his thumb and forefinger, and pressed it gently. When it hardened at his touch, he applied more pressure.
“Uhh!” I grunted.
“No cream for me?” he husked in a tone of pure mischief, his other hand sliding in-between my thighs.
“When the milk comes, it’ll be for the baby, and she won’t want to share.”
Kaye froze. After a moment’s pause, he asked in his normal voice, “she?”
“Or he,” I said. “Sorry, Kaye, I still don’t know.”
“If our child is a boy,” Kaye spoke slowly, “will you name him—”
“Stop!” I cut him off. “You will be there when our child is born. You must.”
I suddenly felt the tears flow, and a moment later I was sobbing. Kaye removed his hand from my breast and just held me until I was done. I felt a few of his tears fall on my back.
“Yelen,” he said, “my love.”
“Kaye,” I whispered, “I don’t think I can do this if I think of it as goodbye.”
“Then just be here with me. Let the future keep its secrets. Can you do that?”
I sniffed and nodded. “Lie down with me?” I asked, feeling as raw and vulnerable as a newly hatched chick.
Kaye released me and I turned to face him. My eyes had adjusted to the near-complete dark such that I could make out his broad-shouldered outline. I knew he had thrown on a light tunic and hose before we left our rooms.
“I want to feel your skin on mine,” I said. “Take that shirt off.”
Kaye obliged and I hugged his bare chest to my bosom before helping him down to the storeroom floor. I lay half on-top of him and for a while we just clung to each other. I thought I heard a small sound, a shoe on stone, and I tensed up, fearing we had been caught already.
My lover’s hands caressed and soothed me, sliding under my open robe to gently massage my back. He wasn’t trying to arouse me, just comfort me. I felt myself relax into the safety of his embrace, and desire slowly returned. I stroked Kaye’s side, ran my fingers through the hair on his chest, found his nipple, and pinched it.
“Such a tiny teat,” I said, as I gave it a tug. “Can’t feed a baby with it.”
“Hrrrr.” Kaye gave a little shiver, then his hands were moving down my back to my bottom. The pressure of his fingertips felt good, and I lowered my mouth to kiss his nipple. Pain shot through my split lip and tongue, but it gave me an idea.
“Spank me,” I said.
I thought I heard a faint gasp. We’d done this before. Surely Kaye wasn’t surprised.
“Spank me,” I repeated myself, “I need it.”
“Can do,” Kaye husked, and swept my gown off to one side with a quick, simple motion.
I could almost sense his hand rising, and I held my breath in suspense, waiting for it to fall.
“Ah!” I gasped, then covered my mouth with a hand to muffle the noise.
“Mmmh!” The sensation rolled over me, the pain of my curse-inflicted wounds dimming and growing distant by comparison.
“Mmmh!” I rolled one leg over Kaye’s and straddled his thigh. After a few more swats my hips were moving on their own, grinding against him.
“Kayyye,” I moaned, then was interrupted by the next spank. “Ahhhh! Enough! I want you in me.”
He reached for his braces.
“No, leave them on,” I said. “We want to make sure they come with you when the magic…happens. Are your crutches handy?”
“Try to grab them when you see the sky opening, or if you feel, ah, something happening.” I paused at the ridiculousness of my own words. “Blight it! I don’t understand how any of this works!”
Kaye touched my left arm. “Don’t think about it. Just be with me.”
“Right,” I said, and began rolling down his hose. When his cock leapt free, I took it in my hand and began stroking him. I shifted, lifting myself over his hips and bringing the head of his shaft up to my slit. Fear of death and worse, of loss, pounded against the back of my skull, demanding attention. Then Kaye’s hips bucked, pressing into me. I slid down over him, and the raw physicality of his cock entering and filling me drove away the terrors.
“Hnnnn,” I groaned, and starting moving, rocking my hips against his.
It felt good, but no glowing sigils sprung to life upon my skin, and I felt nothing of the arcane power that had previously split the sky. I picked up the pace, trying to coax the magic into life.
Maybe I’d blocked the magic completely with my attempts to suppress it.
Maybe the soldiers would find us here, and we’d be executed.
Maybe I wasn’t trying hard enough.
“Yelen, you’re going too—ahhhh—fast…” Kaye said, “I won’t be able to hold out…”
In Kaye’s plea, I found my answer.
“No, Kaye,” I husked, “I think I want to make you come.”
Wet slapping noises echoed in the storeroom as I pounded Kaye for all I was worth. I couldn’t keep this pace up for long. Hopefully I wouldn’t have to.
“Ahhh!” he moaned. I placed a hand over his mouth. “Mmmmph!”
“That’s it, lover, give it to me.”
“Mmmm-aaaaaahhhh!” My hand slipped as he bucked. I felt him come inside me. I settled down over Kaye’s hips and closed my eyes, enjoying the way his cock continued to jerk inside me for some time. Then I opened my eyes and let my hands move on their own. Memory and instinct blended as I traced the sigils, and I felt the Power flow as they sprang to life upon my skin. A bluish glow suffused the storeroom. Suddenly I was aware of a presence in my mind. I ‘touched’ it and it stuck to me, flooding me with an intense arousal that was not my own, superimposed on my body like a second skin.
I reached down between my legs and caressed my labia. They also lit up with fireless light, as they had on the first night Kaye and I were together.
“Uhhh!” I felt a sudden contraction run through me, and I clenched tight around Kaye’s cock, still firm inside me.
“Ah, ah, oh fuck, Bri, Fi, uuuuuaaaah!” cried out a high, female voice that was not my own.
I had no opportunity to consider this impossibility, because in the next moment an unbearably intense need rose over me, cresting like a wave with crashing orgasm or complete disappointment just behind it. I masturbated furiously and rocked my hips. Kaye’s cock was pressing against a deliciously sensitive spot inside me, and I threw back my head, reached up with my free hand, and screamed as the wave lifted me up to the sky.
I couldn’t hear the sound of my own voice, I couldn’t feel my body, I could barely see. All I felt was an overwhelming rush, like flying headfirst into a gale, and seeing a seam in the heavens, an imperceptibly thin line. I reached out with something that might have been my hand and pulled the seam open. The sky sloughed away, the moon and stars falling to either side like a curtain being drawn. Great roiling mists came rushing at me, or I at them, and then I passed out.
I was lying on my back in the castle storeroom. The floor was cool against my bare skin. Looking up, I could see that great chunks of the walls and ceiling had separated one from the other and were floating suspended in mid-air. Out beyond the fractured place, as much felt as seen, strange mists churned.
“Kaye?” I called as I sat up. I needn’t have worried. He lay, completely naked, not far from me, his expression one of mingled wonder and confusion.
“Eyaaaah!” A shrill shriek cut through the air.
I spun around only to see another naked form, this one a young woman leaping up from behind a stack of crates. It took me a moment to recognize that it was Lily.
She looked at me wild-eyed, and burbled, “No, uh, I wait, sorry, can’t be…” then took off like an arrow loosed from the bow, squeezing between two floating sections of wall and running away down a mostly-intact corridor.
“Oh no,” I heard myself say. “Kaye, we have to find her.”
Kaye coughed and I turned to look at him.
“Yelen,” he said, “I can’t move.”
